Shopkeeping

There isn't much going on here, hence the lack of activity on the blog. Things will speed up after 5th Feb (... tick, tick, tick ....). Sophie had a visit from her Grandma and Grandpa Lyons last week who brought along a cash till and encouraged her to take up the family tradition of shopkeeping. Needless to say, she needed no encouragement and happily bags up scaled models of Heinz products for a swipe of our toytown credit card. Her painting skills are coming along nicely too.

3 weeks to go

Sophie had an X-ray last week and her leg is healing well. She is due to have the plaster taken off on 5th February.

"Saturn hat on"

Sophie is now doing lots of talking. Some current favourites:

"No fresh air!" - protest prior to going out in the pushchair on a cold day.

"Simon!" - in preference to "Daddy" when trying to get my attention.
"This way!" - when directing the person carrying her around
"Number other one" - when I pointed to a number 6 on the TV just after we had identified a number 5.
"Saturn hat on" - when identifying the planet stuck to her wall. She can also do Pluto, Earth and Mars. The "hat on" bit refers to the fact that the rings around Saturn resemble a brim and she likes to put everything on her head.
"Other present!" - a request heard for several days after Christmas.

Robot

Last day of the year. This is the day when, apologies to my Dutch friends, the whole of Holland turns into a 12-year-old boy. Fireworks are thrown about willy-nilly and, for those of us brought up on firework safety adverts, it's generally wise to stay indoors and "tut" lots. Check out the pics of Sophie, helping to construct a Lego robot.

Thank You

So thanks to all who kindly sent presents for Sophie. She had a really fun day. We will try to be better next year at sending out cards and presents on time but, with one thing and another, we missed the boat this year. Here's a picture of a tired little girl on her way to bed at the end of a fun day.

A fixer-upper

Sophie got a doll's house for Christmas this year (amongst many other things). We decided on a fixer-upper rather than anything too expensive ... the bottom has really dropped out of the doll's house market here in NL and there are some real bargains to be had. The wallpapering and carpeting have already started. She really likes it and has spent several hours already organising the inhabitants. The dog has had several baths.
