Lottie is making good progress. Her nerves are firing up and she's getting the use back in her stiff legs. She's still pretty miserable and frustrated at not being able to walk properly (see pic). The one outstanding issue is her damaged pelvis, particularly the ball-and-socket joint of her right back leg. The plan is to wait until her nerves are better and she's ready for surgery and then to do something called a femoral head excision on her broken leg joint. Basically, they take the ball off the femur and create a gliding joint, which will serve her well (although she always have a bit of a swagger).
Lottie (a.k.a. Beastly) spent some time with some friends when Jo was in hospital last week. 6 days ago she escaped from the house and tried to find her way back home across The Hague .... a feat that not even the protagonists in The Incredible Journey could have accomplished. Lottie had an altercation with a car and broke her pelvis in several places in addtion to suffering nerve damage which left her front left leg paralysed. She also went into shock. She was a bit "touch and go" (but mainly "go") for a while, which left us reeling after the great news of our baby daughter Sophie two days before. However she has made great progress in the past few days and is now using her front leg again. The vet thinks there will be a postive outcome but it will take a long time for her to recover. She will probably require surgery on her damaged leg joint. It's really fortunate that the Dutch love dogs. The driver of the car phoned for a pet ambulance (yes they have ambulances for pets), and Lottie was whisked to a 25 hour pet centre.
Anyway, here's a pic of Beastly (a.k.a. Lottie) just a couple of days after the accident. A few people have e-mailed asking for news (Lottie's fan club Ra Ra Ra!) so we'll post progress here.
Today Sophie and Simon both needed passports so a trip to the photo shop was planned. This is Sophie's first outing in her new wheels. Here's a top tip. If you are getting photos done for a passport try getting more than 2 hours sleep in the preceding three nights.
Last Saturday was our first anniversary. Here's Jo looking lovely in a little black number. We went to Calla's restaurant. I can thoroughly recommend it to anyone who wants some posh nosh in The Hague.
